Breastfeeding Peer Supporter Course

This course has been developed by the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers to enable doulas, health professionals and others working with parents and babies to gain a ABM qualification.

It is also open to doulas who haven’t got children of their own, or who didn’t breastfeed, and who therefore do not meet the usual entrance criteria of the 4 national breastfeeding organisations.

If you would like an ABM qualification that is recognised in the wider breastfeeding world and benefit from ABM membership and the opportunities for on-going learning they provide, this course is for you.

It consists of 2 modules: Module 1 and the Transition Module. It concentrates on providing you with knowledge of normal breastfeeding, how to support mothers to get things off to a good start, how to recognise the more common early challenges and asks you to think about your boundaries as a Peer Supporter and doula.

You work through the modules at home, researching your answers to the questions. Help and support is provided with a book list and suggested resources as well as having access to your tutor – me!

The course costs £275, including a year’s membership of ABM.
