More about me
About me
I am Koah, a cake loving, veg planting mama of one. Happiest outside with my hands in the soil and foraging for wild medicines, surrounded by community and learning about the magical processes that create, birth and nourish a baby. I came to doula-ing after the birth of my son in 2022. After spending a lot of my pregnancy alone and subsequently having my own doula, I really understand the value of support and reassurance when becoming a parent. My background has always been rooted in social and supportive roles, and doula work beautifully aligns with my activism, values and compassion.
Outside of doula-ing I work as a Perinatal Mental Health Peer Supporter for Light, a Sheffield-based charity supporting women and birthing parents from pregnancy up to 2 years postpartum. I also volunteer with the Sheffield City Council Doula Programme, providing birth support to women and families experiencing isolation and often extreme hardships.
I’m deeply passionate about creating supportive environments for parents, advocating for their choices and rights, and helping birthing parents to reclaim their strength. It’s a privilege to weave this passion into various aspects of my life. I view pregnancy and birth as profoundly magical and revere our bodies for their resilience and wisdom. Holding space for each new mother and birthing person is a role I cherish.
What I can offer you as your doula
For me it has always been extremely important to acknowledge that not every new parent or birthing person is a mama, but all new parents need support; something that guides my practice and care. I’m here to support families and individuals on their journey to parenthood in whatever form that may take.
As a doula, my role is to provide you with resources and information, practical support and a comforting presence throughout our time working together.
My care is free of judgement and bias; I will make space for you to ask as many questions as you need to and make sure that you feel held and at ease. I understand that every family’s journey will be unique and that what each person needs from me as a doula will vary.
As a queer parent, I’m deeply aware of how often LGBTQIA+ families and alternative paths to parenthood can be overlooked or misunderstood within pregnancy and birth spaces. I know how powerful it can be to have someone alongside you who understands the importance of being seen, heard and affirmed throughout your journey into parenthood; whether you are exploring your options for becoming a parent, navigating fertility journeys, assisted conception, surrogacy or another path to parenthood. I believe everyone deserves compassionate, inclusive and evidence-based care. My hope is to create a space where you can show up fully as yourself, where your family is celebrated, your choices are respected and you feel held throughout the process of creating and growing your family.
The support packages that I offer can be used as a guideline for our time together; however, they are extremely flexible and we will work together to create a package that suits your needs. Before booking, we will schedule a free initial meeting which can take place online or in a space where you feel comfortable.
Whether you are looking for a comforting presence throughout pregnancy and labour, longer-term support after your birth, or you are welcoming a baby into your life through another route, I will be there to support this transition and provide you with a safe space to bond, heal and settle into family life together.
I also offer donation based support for those navigating pregnancy endings through abortion or miscarriage. I recognise that these experiences can bring a wide range of emotions, and that everyone deserves compassionate, non-judgemental care and a safe space to process their feelings. My role is to listen, hold space, provide reassurance and support you through your experience in whatever way feels right for you.
