More about me

My name is Carla and I am a birth and postnatal doula, and I love my job!  I came to doulaing in maturity after having been birth partner to my daughter alongside her husband, and then supporting her during her postnatal period.  I realised how important support, both practical and emotional can be, and what a difference it can make to parents’ journey.

I am married and have 2 grown up children and a grandson who brings me such joy and laughter, and with whom I share the job of homeschooling – though I must admit my daughter and her husband do a better job than my slightly more haphazard approach!  We live in a tiny house in Shaftesbury, Dorset and have 2 dogs, one of which has just been diagnosed with diabetes, who knew that was possible?

As I said, I love my job, and I have a huge thirst for knowledge on the subject of birth and babies, I follow all kinds of amazingly wise people on various social medias, and learn something new most days!  Its a fascinating world, the world of birth, and I’m never happier than when I’m passing on that fascination – have learnt to not do it all the time though!  I am trained in hypnobirthing, birth trauma resolution (rewind) and biomechanics.  Biomechanics is a tool which helps you become aware of your pelvis and how to create balance and space which will all help during your labour.  The hypnobirthing I teach is scientifically based which I think helps people, both clients and their partners, understand how it works and why it is used so successfully.

Working alongside clients and helping them learn to trust their instincts, to gain confidence and to be able to be clear about what they want and how they will achieve it is one of the most rewarding parts of my job, but I also love working an area where a group of fellow workers is called a ‘cuddle’.  A cuddle of doulas, how wonderful is that!
